Protocols going forward:

  1. Please let me know as soon as possible if you are feeling any of the cold, flu, or covid like symptoms and you can reschedule after 14 days.
  2. If you are attending with family or cohort pods please let me know for planning purposes.
  3. Please bring a mask or buff for times when the 2 metre rule will be compromised.
  4. Please bring your own hand sanitiser and/or wipes. I will have a bulk bottle to refill your personal size container, but hand washing facilities in the outdoor area will be limited to what you bring along!
  5. There will be full washroom facilities on the saturday classroom portion where applicable.
  6. Long sleeves and pants are highly recommended to contain the spread of germs.
  7. Social distancing, gloves, individual CPR masks, and sanitised equipment as per usual will be in place as required.

We may have attendees participating in activities that are shortening the 2 metre distancing rule, like accident and injury simulation and rescue scenarios that would be occurring in the WRFA & AWRFA courses, But with proper precautions and family/cohort interaction we should be safe.

If you have already paid for your course you will be able to join in any upcoming course, as soon as we can schedule you in, without incurring any transfer or administration surcharges.
If you have yet to pay there will be no increase in training fees for the remainder of this year.

Howdy Folks,

After much kerfuffle over the COVID-19 closures, OutThere First Aid instruction is moving forward!

We have new protocols in place and will be proceeding with rescheduling our backlog of postponed courses.

Emails will be sent out to everyone on our mailing list to get everyone sorted out as seamlessly as possible : )

Going Forward…COVID-19 response affecting summer courses!

Howdy Folks,

After the Announcement from the government on Thursday regarding the ongoing restrictions and discussion with the Alberta representative of the Canadian Red Cross, and the newly added directive below I have decided to postpone all Wilderness First Aid courses until the government restrictions are lifted.

1. Does the activity violate a public health order?
Under recent health orders, an activity is not allowed to proceed if it involves:

  • any event or gathering of 15 or more people.
  • a situation where physical distancing isn’t possible.
  • An activity involving fewer than 15 people that requires individuals to maintain less than two metres (6 feet) from others, unless the individuals are from the same household.

We would have attendees participating in activities that promote disease transmission, like accident and injury simulation and rescue scenarios that would be occurring in the WRFA & AWRFA courses, and it means that I will be postponing the course you are registered in.

If you require your certification for work please note that “The Canadian Red Cross is aware that in person course cancellations due to COVID-19 precautionary measures and closures and will have an impact on those requiring to maintain their certifications. Red Cross has worked with workplace health and safety regulators to offer support to those who have certifications that will expire in the next months.

All Red Cross first aid certifications (which would have expired March through June 30, 2020) will be considered valid 90-days beyond their expiry date. These certifications will also be accepted for those taking recertification courses when in-person training resumes.”

Please note that expired certifications may be extended further as conditions require or alternate training methods, like the currently available online Standard First Aid portion of the training that will cover you for 90 days from completion, become available.

If you have already paid for your course you will be able to join in any upcoming scheduled course, as soon as we are able to resume teaching, without incurring any transfer or administration surcharges.

If you have yet to pay there will be no increase in training fees for the remainder of this year.

This affects all courses scheduled throughout the summer unless the Government eases up on the restrictions in the coming months.

COVID – 19 Response

April 3, 2020

Howdy Folks,

James from OutThere First Aid here.

My Updated COVID-19 response as of April 3, 2020

Howdy Folks,   I’ve just heard from the Canadian Red Cross regarding the Alberta government requirement for gatherings of less than 15 people that has attendees participating in activities that promote disease transmission,  like accident and injury simulation and rescue scenarios that would be occurring in the WRFA & AWRFA courses, and it means that I will be postponing the course you are registered in.

This last communication was to cover to the end of April at this point in time.

If you have already paid for your course you will be able to join in any upcoming scheduled course, as soon as we are able to resume teaching, without incurring any transfer or administration surcharges.

If you have yet to pay there will be no increase in training fees for the remainder of this year.   That said I am hoping to book you into any of these course dates I have scheduled in May in the Turner Valley United Church basement where social distancing will be easy, and the wild area south west of Turner Valley seldom has visitors.

May
1-3 in Turner Valley 6 spots available

8-10 in Turner Valley 4 spots available

29-31 in Turner Valley 2 spots available

Let me know which date suits you and I will arrange your transfer.

Going forward I am already following the Canadian Red Cross strict guidelines for cleaning and disinfection for all teaching aids and materials, namely washing mannequin parts, masks, bandages, and blankets in bleach solution and sterilisation settings on the washing machine as appropriate.

Social distancing in the classrooms.

Individual pocket masks for each participant.

Everyone having there own mannequin where practical.

I have bleach wipes for disinfection of electronic devices between uses, hand sanitiser available at all times, examination gloves, as well as asking any participant who is ill to reschedule to another later class with no administration fee.
